Hiromu Tanaka: "My dream is to find my favorite place with my favourite person, to live the lif

The summer of 2017. The last summer of my teens. I decided to go on a backpacking trip across east Europe for a month. Before the trip, “I was 51% excited and 49% anxious, but I thought, if there was even 1% more excitement, I should go! In retrospect, I’m glad I went because the trip turned out to be 100% pure excitement all the way through.

I didn't know where to stay or what I was doing. It was then that I became close friends with a Brazilian backpacker. He taught me how to open up to people in a new country and gave me a lot of courage to make new friends. One of them is a family I met on a bus. I was a total stranger but they invited me to their home and treated me dinner. I was overjoyed! In their language, I told the grandmother how delicious it was, and to my surprise, she started crying in happiness. Communicating how you feel in their language, I think, is so important.

“Bonding with others", “the spirit of just doing” and “just keep smiling” are things I learned from the trip that I'll value for the rest of my life. Through traveling all around the world, "my dream is to find my favorite place with my favourite person, to live the life I love in the whole wide world".

2017年の夏、それが私の10代最後の夏であり、私は東欧バックパッカー旅に挑んだ。この旅で、特に「人との繋がり」「とりあえずやってみる」「常に笑顔でいること」ということの大切さを学んだ。

　アルバイトとインターンで貯めたお金で夏休みの一ヶ月間、東ヨーロッパを1人で旅した。出発前は一人旅に対してワクワク：不安が51：49だった。しかし１％でもワクワクが多いなら行ってみる価値があると思い行動に移し、実際に行ってみたらワクワクと楽しさが100だった。何事もとにかく挑戦してみるべきだと思う。

　旅先では宿も決めておらず、英語も通じず、右も左もわからないスタートだった。しかし、最初に出会ったブラジル人と友達になり、彼から人への心の開き方、友達の作り方を学んだ。旅の途中のバスである一家に出会い、彼らの家に滞在させてもらった期間もあった。彼らは他人であったはずの自分に食事を出してくれ、無償の愛を注いでくれた。奥さんが作ってくれた料理に対し、「美味しい」とその国の言葉で伝えたら涙を流して喜んでくれた。時には現地語できちんと思いを伝えることも大切だと知った。常に優しく、笑顔でいることで自然と友達も増え、新しい土地に溶け込んでいくことができるのだ。

　人生を楽しんでいたい。人と比べて幸せ、ではなく自分自身が楽しんでいることを誇らしく思いたい。夢は「世界１好きな場所で、世界一好きな人と、世界一好きな暮らし方をする」ことだ。

　2018年は来年の世界一周という新しいステージに向け、勉強やアルバイトなどで「我慢の年」になる。2017年に学んだ事を生かしながら楽しむことを忘れないで進んでいこう。
