During my study abroad at Upenn, I went on a solo trip to Havana with only 200 dollars in my wallet, thinking I could use my credit card...big mistake.

Two nights in, I got in a cab and noticed there were two men inside. Feeling outnumbered, I decided to make conversation because I figured, if I befriend them, they won't try to hurt me, right?

They turned out to be good guys, so I decided to hire them on my last day. I had 20 dollars left, just enough for a ride back to the airport, but I was starving. They kindly asked around for a place which accepted credit cards and we ended up at a fancy restaurant. I felt obliged to invite them in and as we sat down, the guy starts calling someone. It's his wife and she's near the area, so he motions for her to join our table. When she ordered her second drink, I remember sitting there thinking "Oh god, I'm gonna lose all my money here!". She ended up sharing three meals and five drinks with her husband! At the end of our meal, came a ¥10,000 yen check and a feeling of defeat. That's got to be one of the funniest moments of 2017. (Laughs).

ペンシルバニア大学で留学中に、私はハバナへ一人旅をしました。クレジットカードを使えると思い込んでいた私は、財布に200ドルしか入れず、キューバに旅立ちました。（後にこれがとんでもない過ちに繋がるとは、その時はまったく気づきもしませんでした…） 二泊目の夜、タクシーに乗り込んだ時、男性二人がいる事に気づきました。２対１になってしまい怖かったので、話しかけてみようと思いました。というのも、友達になってしまえば変なことはされないと思ったからです。 その二人はとてもいい方々だったので、最終日にまた雇うことに決めました。お腹が空いていたのですが、所持金はちょうど空港まで必要な２０ドルしかなく、諦めかけていました。しかし、彼らははクレジットカード対応の店をわざわざ探してくれたので、高級レストランにたどり着けました。奢るために二人を誘って着席した途端、一人の運転手が急に電話をかけ始めたのです。「実は、妻がちょうど近くにいる」っと。運転手の妻が私たちのテーブルに座り、二杯目を頼んだ時、「私はここで全財産を失くす事になる！」と思ったのを覚えています。結局、彼女は三品と飲み物五杯を頼み、私が合計一万円相当払いました。なんともいえない敗北感を味わったのを覚えています。それが2017年、私にとって一番面白かった出来事です（笑）。
