Augusto Policastro Barrientos: "All the struggles in life, we have this potential to make them

The objective of life is to be happy, nothing else really matters, everything should lead to that.

There was a moment in my life when I was little when it was a really hard time. The Argentinian economy crashed, and my dad became unemployed. Later, both my grandparents passed away. My parents then said, “Let’s go on vacation, let’s figure it out!” So, we borrowed this tent from my cousin and drove all the way to Florianopolis in Brazil! I remember memories of the trip being s...o much fun and a cleansing of all the havoc that was happening.

After that, things started to pick up for us. Seeing my dad progressing with work and transforming all the struggles into happiness for all of us, set an example for me.

In the moment, it’s impossible to think “Oh this is going to make me happy in the future.” All the struggles in life, we have this potential to make them into fuel for our happiness. It doesn’t matter how many or what kind of hardships you’re going through because you can become happier through that later. My parents showed me that not through words but through their lives as examples.

私が幼い時に本当に苦労していた時期がありました。アルゼンチンの経済が堕落し、私の父が失業し、さらには祖父母が亡くなったのです。私の両親は「旅に出よう、何か答えを探しに行こう」と言いました。私たちはいとこからテントを借り、ブラジルのフロリアノポリスを延々と走りつづけました！その旅の思い出はとても楽しくて、当時の混乱をクリアにしてくれました。その後、物事がうまく行き始めました。私の父が仕事で活躍し、私たちのもがきを幸せに変えてゆく姿は私にとっての模範でした。

苦しい時に、「ああ、この苦しみが将来私を幸せにする」なんて考えることは不可能です。でも、人生における苦労は、私たちを幸福にするための燃料であるかもしれないのです。あなたがどんな苦難を経験するか、またその量はあまり関係ありません。それらを通じてのちにあなたは幸せになれるから。私の両親はこのことを、言葉ではなく彼らの生き方で私に示してくれたのでした。
