It was already 2 in the morning when we had finished setting up decorations and posters the day before the “Triangle Festa” at the International Community House at Soshigaya. After dismissing the group, I went around to check if everything was in place but found that we were missing a few things. Like the food booth committee, they figured out what to make and when to start cooking but they had forgotten to prepare meal tickets or spare change. The dorm manager found me still preparing when he walked in at 6:00 in the morning. He said, “What are you doing at this hour?!” He’s the only guy who knows I pulled an all-nighter. I didn't want my dorm friends to know. After that, I put on a dance performance and distributed meal tickets until 3:00 in the afternoon when it was all over.

It’s my third time organizing the festa because I’m part of the LGL who organizes events at the dorm. The festa went a little different this time, we had more exchange students chipping in compared to the first or second time. Actually, my mother visits every year, all the way from Shizuoka. She told me “finally, it feels like an international housing event, compared to the last two times!”. I guess that’s my best moment of 2017.

国際交流会館のトライアングルフェスタの前日に、寮のみんなで飾り付けとか看板とかを準備して、終わったときにはもう朝の２時でした。みんなが帰ったあとに一人で最終確認しに行ったら、自分が担当していなかったグループの出し物で、これも足りない、あれも足りないっていう風に足りない部分が出てきてしまったんです。例えば、食べ物を売るグループでは、何作ろう、何時から作り始めたらいいかな、みたいな準備だけで、肝心の食券やお釣りを用意してなかったんです。他にもちょっとしたことだったんですけど、これなくてもまあいいけどあったほうがもっといいかもって思ったことを、全部一人で準備しました。気づいたら、もう朝６時で、寮を管理しているマネージャーさんが来て、「えっ！何やってんの？」って準備してる僕を見つけて、びっくりしてましたね。徹夜したことを知ってるのは唯一彼だけで、当日みんなにはバレないようにしました。その後も、１０時から一睡もしないで、ダンスしたり、食券を配ったりフェスタが終わる３時までずっと動いてました。

このフェスタは僕にとって３回目で、僕はLGLという、寮でのイベントを企画する組織のリーダーをやっています。今年は１回目と２回目に比べて、留学生の参加者も圧倒的に増えて、一味違うものとなりました。毎年、母が見にくるんですね、実家の静岡から。「今までと比べてやっと国際交流会館って感じがあるね」って母が言ってくれたことがすごく嬉しくて今でも心に残ってます。それが２０１７年で一番の思い出だと思います。２０１８年は、そうですね、僕にとって最後のフェスタになるので、今までで一番いいものにしたいです。
