For someone who is from Hiroshima, I have been educated how awful war and nuclear weapons are. I’ve written articles about peace for a local newspaper when I was in middle school and high school. I’ve deeply thought about atomic bombs and peace my whole life, but entering Sophia and meeting international students made me realize for the first time that there are differences in perceptions on what atomic bombs did to war and to Japan as a country. But it’s also important to recognize the opinions of those from outside of Japan and the reasons behind them. That’s when I felt the need to have a place to exchange opinions, and started to hold tours to go to Hiroshima with exchange students, and share each other's’ thoughts.

Through this activity, what I'm looking for is not an apology to Hiroshima, but rather a cooperation to not let that tragedy happen ever again, and hopefully to spread that message across the world. It’s still a small group tour but I plan to expand it for students with as many different backgrounds to participate. I see promoting peace through these kind of activity as my mission for me, who was born and raised in Hiroshima. Though differences in perception on the matter of Hiroshima exists, it does not change the universal conception of the fact that war is for no good. 広島県出身の私は、幼い頃から戦争や核兵器の恐ろしさについて教育されてきました。中高生の頃は地方新聞社でジュニアライターとして平和に関する記事を書いていたこともあります。原爆や平和を深く考えてきましたが、上智大学に入学し留学生と交流して初めて、日本と外国では広島で起こったことに対して認識の違いがあると気付きました。原爆投下で戦争がどうなったのか、日本という国がどうなったのかは、国や人によって捉え方が違います。広島の主張だけでなく、外国の方の意見やそう考える理由にきちんと耳を傾けることも重要です。そこで、意見の交換の場が必要だと感じた私は、留学生を交えて皆で実際に広島へ行き、お互いに感じたことをシェアするというツアーを主催するようになりました。この活動を通して、私が求めているのは広島への「謝罪」ではありません。あの悲劇の再発防止に協力してほしい、という広島のメッセージを世界に少しでも発信していけたら嬉しいです。まだ数人単位のツアーですが、今後はさらに様々な国籍の留学生に参加してもらい規模を大きくしたいと思っています。 このような平和活動をしているのも、広島で生まれ育った使命と言えるかもしれません。たとえ原爆投下への認識が違っても、戦争は良くない、ということは世界共通です。皆さんもぜひ一度、広島に来てみてください。そして平和に対するみなさんの意見を聞かせてください。 - 二井谷栞、看護学科2年、広島（日本）
